December 6, 2009: Morey Cellars will be pouring wines in Orange County, at a fundraiser for the local chaper of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, held at the Orange County Wine & Food Center (OCWFC). The event begins at 4:00pm (VIP) and 5:00pm (everyone) and more details can be found at the CFF website. Come and support a great organization, and enjoy some fine Napa Valley wine in the process!
November 28, 2009: We will be pouring our wines at the IDESST, the Portuguese Hall in Sausalito, from 4:00pm to probably 10:00pm or later. The evening consists of dinner, family activities, Portuguese comedy, traditional Christmas activities, and various booths--including ours--where you can do some of your Christmas shopping. So come down, enjoy some fine fare cooked up by Manuel Azevedo from LaSalette in Sonoma, and get in the mood for Christmas. Tickets can be found at the IDESST website.
August 1, 2009: Morey Cellars is very pleased to sponsor Top Flight Corvette from San Diego and their drag racing team. Lawton Ferreira (Jr. and Sr.) are vying for the top spot in the Heritage category and we are happy to help, at least in terms of wine! More details can be found on our page about Top Flight.
June 13, 2009: As part of the on-going Dia de Portugal events in California, Morey Cellars is pleased to participate in the events at Kelley Park in San Jose. Come by and try our new releases--2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and 2007 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Details can be found at the official Dia de Portugal website. Someone mentioned something about Brazilian samba dancers?... B-)
June 6, 2009: The Portuguese Hall in Sausalito, California, held a festival to celebrate Dia de Portugal, the equivalent of the US' Independence Day. Along with food from fine Portuguese establishments such as LaSalette Restaurant in Sonoma, Morey Cellars poured its wines to a rather joyful and inquisitive crowd. The dancing, music, and art rounded out a great day and we look forward to next year. Oh, and by the way, LaSalette is now carrying Morey Cellars on its wine list!
December 21, 2008: Remember our 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon vintage? 100% cab... very chocolaty... a Bordeaux style to drink upon release or keep... well, our 2005 vintage is back to 100% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and was just bottled! Culled from a small vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of the Napa Valley, the fruit was tasty and enjoyed a wonderful season on the vine. Actually, 2005 was a very bountiful year although we only made 175 cases of this wine. So, now that it's bottled, we have to wait for label approval and expect the release date to be April 1, 2009, so that the wine has a chance to recuperate from bottle shock. Until then, enjoy the last few bottles of the 2002 vintage...
September 18, 2008: We have to do something with our old oak wine barrels as we can only build so many planters out of them. So, one idea was to build a rotating composter. Robert Morey built one and took it to KRON-TV's Henry Tenenbaum and ended up on TV. As soon as we get the video up, we'll post it here!
September 16, 2008: Our first commercial release of Sauvignon Blanc is bottled! Our 2007 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc has an expected release date of November 1, 2008, and we look forward to positive feedback from our friends. True to its varietal's characterists, it is composed of 100% Sauvignon Blanc and was fermented entirely in stainless steel containers. Furthermore, it did not undergo malolactic fermentation thus avoiding the buttery mouthfeel and butterscotch overtones that can easily overwhelm a fine white wine. A typical example of the finest Sauvignon Blancs from the central Napa Valley--areas like Oakville and Yountville--it has citrus flavors coupled with melon and perhaps figs, but not overwhelming lime or lemon brightness. The body is light but complex at the same time, and evolves during the drinking experience. We see it pairing very well with seafood salads, crab cakes, and asian sauces, but we look forward to feedback from our friends.
June 14, 2008: Has it been one year already?! We are going to have a booth at the Dia de Portugal event in San Jose on June 14, 2008. More details at the Dia de Portugal website. Come by to say hello, try some of our wines and, of course, enjoy a healthy dose of Portuguese culture!
January 31, 2008: The Unified Wine and Grape Symposium takes places in Sacramento every January, and is the largest industry event of the year in the US. Our winemaker's "real" job at the time was selling the Zork closure and he ended up in a video for the Sacramento Bee. Yes, it is true that the camera adds 10 or 20 pounds! See for yourself...
June 9, 2007:Once again, Morey Cellars is very pleased to participate in Dia de Portugal, the "Day of Portugal" celebration in San Jose's Kelly Park on Saturday, June 9, 2007. We will have a booth with a number of giveaways and look forward to seeing our old friends and making new ones. More details can be found at Dia de Portugal.
February 1, 2007:With a limit of 200 cases per year, we hope that our friends can understand that we are focusing on the fine restaurants that already carry our wines. Of course, then we come across fine establishments such as Cafe Hidalgo in Fullerton, California, that have wonderful fare and exquisite taste for wine and are happy to be carried by them. If you are ever in Fullerton, California, which is in Orange County, you must make Cafe Hidalgo one of your gastronomic stops and, of course, try some wine...
September 27, 2006:Morey Cellars is very pleased to have our 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at JV Wine & Spirits in Napa. JV Wine is an excellent, local retail establishment with literally hundreds of wonderful and hard-to-find wines and spirits. With three someliers on staff, we have enjoyed being their customers for years and are now proud to find our wines among their fine selections. Check out their selections, purchase online, stop by the tasting bar, and even join their wine club. In business since 1947, they truly are where the Napa Valley shops for wine.
June 21, 2006: The Association of Women In Technology in Orange County, California, is holding its Fifth Annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction, and Morey Cellars is very pleased to provide the wine! Joining forces with the Bacchus Society, AWT is raising money for its Charitable Foundation and Scholarship Program. In addition to our own wine, we will also be pouring wines from Sosabe Cellars and Tedeschi Family Winery, a couple friends of ours who also produce fine Napa Valley wines. This is for members only; more details at the AWT website.
May 26, 2006: We got gold! We are very pleased that our 2002 vintage won a gold medal at the Lone Star International Wine Competition in Texas this month. We were the only limited production (200 cases or fewer) Cabernet Sauvignon to win a gold medal. Although we do not typically enter competitions, a good friend and customer of ours in Texas insisted that we compete, and he was right! More details can be found on the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association website.
March 19, 2006: Morey Cellars will be pouring our 2002 vintage at the Orange County Wine Society's Extraordinaire event on Sunday, April 2, at the Anaheim Hilton from 2:00 - 5:00pm. Some 200 small wineries will be there as well. Sign up online in advance for a cheaper rate. We look forward to seeing our friends again, both old and new!
December 1, 2005: Our 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is officially released! After 27 months in barrel and 6 months in bottle, this wine follows the footsteps of its predecessor: elegant and refined, drinkable now and worthy of long-term cellaring. Pair it with veal, roast duck, even salmon with a red wine reduction, and molten chocolate cake (one of our favorites!). Please check out our online shop for ordering details.
November 15, 2005: Our winemaker, Robert Morey, joined Jon Mortimer once again on his weekly show about food and wine, Radio Cafe, this time to talk about wine corks and the closure industry. You can listen to the interview here or by going to the Mortimer Guest page and searching for Robert Morey in the Winemaker/Owner section of the list (7Mb).
October 9, 2005: This harvest found us so busy that we barely had a chance to update our website! Rest assured, however, that we have not forgotten our loyal friends and fellow wine lovers. With our feet burgundy in color and being filmed by the BBC for an upcoming documentary, we are very pleased to announce that we will be pouring both our 2000 and our 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at the fourth annual Santa Clara de Asis Church Fall Wine Classic which will take place at the Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, Orange County, California, on October 23, from 2:00 to 5:00pm. Please join us in this worthy fundraiser--more details at Local Wine Events. Between now and then, we will be working on our Cabernet Sauvignon from the red hot Spring Mountain Road in St. Helena!
July 27, 2005: We love Idaho! And fine establishments in this fine state seem to love us as well! We are pleased that the following establishments have decided to carry our 2000 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon: BanBury Golf Club, 45th Parallel at MeadowCreek Golf Resort, Whitetail Club, Boise Co-Op, Ridley's Family Market in Boise, and Epicurean Restaurant at the Hotel McCall. Along with Mortimer's in Boise and Bistro 45 in McCall, we are very pleased to have found such a warm welcome in Idaho and look forward to many years of a great relationship.
June 23, 2005: We are very pleased to find our wine at the Bistro 45 Wine Bar in McCall, Idaho. Bistro 45 has that nice ambiance where one can relax, play chess or chat with friends, and have a nice glass or three of wine. Make sure you stop by when you are in the area.
May 10, 2005: One of the very unique attractions in the Napa Valley is the Wine Train. Morey Cellars is now on their wine list and we are pleased to be among such a nice collection of our peers.
April 15, 2005: Walking into Mortimer's restaurant in Boise, Idaho, is like walking into a Wine Spectator dining experience. The restaurant, run by Shara and Jon Mortimer, is a class act and features an amazing menu complemented by a great selection of fine wines. We are very pleased that our 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is now part of that great wine list. Jon hosts a weekly radio show called "Radio Cafe" and we were pleased that our winemaker, Robert Morey, was invited to participate and talk about our history and winemaking in the Napa Valley in general.
April 5, 2005: Up until now, we had shied away from retail shops because we were concerned that they would not take the time to talk about us and our wine to their customers. Then we discovered Dan Dawson at Back Room Wines. Located in the heart of the city of Napa, Dan knows his wines exceedingly well, has a great collection, and, more importantly, takes the time to understand and speak with him trusting customers. He liked our 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon and we are very pleased that he agreed to carry it at his store. Check out his website for on-going events such as tastings and food pairings. And tell him we sent you!
February 26, 2005: Napa has great wines and great restaurants to go along with them. One such restaurant is Cole's Chop House, owned by Greg Cole who also owns Celadon, and we are very, very pleased to be on its wine list. Looking for great steaks and wine? Check out Cole's Chop House in Napa and look for Morey Cellars on the wine list.
February 14, 2005: Perhaps we are biased but, to us, nothing spells L-O-V-E more than being the featured wine for Valentine's dinner. The Inn of the Seventh Ray is featuring Morey Cellars' 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon for their Valentine's dinner and we are very pleased to hear that. Paired with a wonderful menu specially prepared by Executive Chef Robert Lia, we are sure that this is going to be a memorable event.
February 5, 2005: The UCLA Anderson Alumni Association, Orange County Chapter, and Morey Cellars are pleased to announce an evening of art collecting and wine tasting at the Orange County Museum of Art on Thursday, February 10, from 5:30 to 8:30pm.
